Lesson Log3/18-27/2020-We will be using canvas.
TERM 4 3/10/2020-Today we did an MIT variation of the "trolley problem" where we looked at a self-driving vehicle with brake failure. Following, we took notes on episode 5 of the revisionist history podcast. http://revisionisthistory.com/episodes/05-food-fight 3/5/2020-We wrote and discussed about digital responsibility. Students worked on presentations. On Wednesday, March 18th, Existentialism, Moral Subjectivism, and Virtue Ethics will present. March 20th will have Stoicism, Nihilism, and Altruism present. 3/3/2020-Students worked on their presentations. 3/2/2020-We listened to the podcast "Revisionist History" Episode S1E4-Carlos cant remember. 2/27/2020-We read and discussed "The Most Dangerous Game" 2/25/2020-Students wrote a response to Night. If you missed, come see me for the prompt. They then read "The Most Dangerous Game." 2/21/2020-We finished reading Night. You will have to write a response to it next class. 2/19/2020-We started class by discussing our values (and our actions). We continued reading Night. 2/14/2020-We wrote on 3 reasons to be "good." We read and discussed (taking notes on both-and handing notes in) on pages 66-76 of "Night." Have a good long weekend. 2/12/2020-We learned a bit more about Aristotle's "Virtue Ethics" by watching a "crash course" on it. We continued with "Night" and then finished by starting on our large group projects on a particular philosophical theory (of your group's choice). 2/10/2020-We continued with Night after writing on "inspiration". The inspiration prompt is a general exploration of the idea, and needs to be turned in. 2/6/2020-We took notes and continued Night. 2/4/2020-We Continued reading "Night." We also had a self-assessment on the self-improvement activity. 1/31/2020-We discussed the play from last time. 1/29/2020-We watched the play, "Every Brilliant Thing." 1/27/2020-Today we listened to a speech given by Elie Wiesel entitled "The Perils of Indifference." We continued by starting our reading of "Night." 1/23/2020-Students explored the question "How could the holocaust happen?" We then discussed it as we prepared to start our reading of Night. 1/21/2020-We continued our notes on philosophers today and then continued with a discussion of "The Fisher Dilemma." 1/16/2020-Class started with a quick look at the disclosure document. We also discussed a personal goal that all students need to make. This goal is to improve one's self, in a specific way, throughout the semester. It will be self-assessed a few times throughout the semester. We finished discussing the vaccination issue (we saw that there was a New Jersey news story within the last few days), and saw a couple more presentations. If you were not here or have not presented, you need to do so during consultation or before or after school. We continued our discussion on "how to live" and determined that we have some responsibility for our fellow humans, but also have individual responsibility for our own well-being. Finally, we took a few notes on Socrates, but will continue learning about him next time. 1/14/2020-Students finished working on their group presentations and presented them. We discussed some of the merits of the issue as a class. We started working on the "Let them eat cake" prompt. 1/10/2020-Students read a couple of articles on the measles epidemic in Samoa. Following which, students worked in small groups to research and prepare a presentation on the ethical issues of vaccination. Presentations will take place on Tuesday the 14th (next class). 1/8/2020-Today class started with a discussion on a dilemma, "Chelsie." We continued with notes on philosophers and vocab terms. We ended by exploring some ideas on what students want to look at this semester. The main ideas were: Social media Paying college athletes Immigration Justice system and death penalty How childhood impacts an individual's future The draft The Environment Product testing on animals Abortion and, Cosmetic surgery I hope to explore many of these topics with you throughout the semester. 1/6/2020- Welcome to class everyone. Today we went over our first "dilemma" entitled "Jason." If you weren't here, please come see me to get the prompt. We also went over some common vocabulary that we need to familiarize ourselves with. |
